New Christmas ornament!

"Angels Garlanding the Infant Jesus" by Ann MacBeth.

The original painting was a watercolor with gouache and gold paint. It fits in style with the "Madonna and Child" by Jean Antoinette Labrousse, another gorgeous Art Nouveau Catholic painting.

I hand cut the glass and sandwich 2 prints back to back and edge it with lead-free solder. It measures 1 3/4 by 3 inches.
The cute chain helps to balance this ornament, which may be hung on a Christmas tree or a wall.

If you put the charms or medals on a key chain, it may get broken if not treated kindly. It is glass. If you want one for a key chain, I can custom make your medium charm/medal with a thicker glass for $3. Small charm/medals don't need thicker glass, but either way, they need to be on a chain before you add them to your key ring.

The image is Art Nouveau in style, one of our favorites. We have never seen the idea of "garlanding" like this in a painting before. It allows the painter to use the Nouveau elements of organic forms and lush vegetation, along with other Nouveau preferences such as mythic figures in dreamy tableau, to create a high effect, making the scene ornate yet comfortable, the angels adoring yet relaxed. Even as they foreshadow his cross, there is a contentment presented to us, a complex, beautiful joy as they dote on the baby.

We especially like the blues and the golds, and note how making the area around the Christ child mostly white keeps your eye coming back to it as you gather the beauty of the picture.

Ann Macbeth (1870-1948) was primarily known as an embroidery artist and teacher, though she also did paintings. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1897 to 1901, and her embroidery work and paintings were often featured in the London edition of The Studio, an important Art Nouveau magazine.

Thanks for your interest!

Thanks!
